The Return of the Alumnus & The Scent of Legacy

Augustine

Dearest Gentle Scrollers,

There is a particular kind of magic that occurs when the halls of one’s youth meet the weight of one’s future. I have been watching the festivities at the legendary St. Augustine’s College, where the 96th Speech and Prize Giving Day became a theater of both nostalgia and ambition.

It was a gathering of the “Ton” of academia and leadership. Among the dignitaries sat our esteemed Vice President, Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, but the center of the web was held by an old boy returning to his roots: Sammi Awuku.

Returning to the “Land of the Saints” is no small feat for a man of Mr. Awuku’s standing. Standing before the current crop of “Augusco Boys,” the Member of Parliament for Akuapem North shed his political cloak for a moment to wear the mantle of a grateful alumnus.

From my vantage point in the rafters, I heard him speak of the institution not merely as a school, but as a forge where young minds are sharpened and character is formed. He reminded the assembly that the influence of St. Augustine’s stretches far beyond its physical walls it is woven into the very leadership and service of the many who have passed through its gates.

The air was thick with the school’s timeless motto: Omnia Vincit Labor Perseverance Conquers All. A sophisticated principle, indeed. Mr. Awuku noted that true achievement is never a product of convenience; it is the silk spun from resilience and hard work. In a world that is rapidly evolving and increasingly complex, he urged the students to look beyond their examinations and discover the kind of individuals they wish to become.

But what is a royal visit without a lasting legacy? To mark the occasion, Mr. Awuku, alongside the APSU 2G1 Year Group unveiled a new thread in the school’s tapestry: The Sammi Awuku Change Makers Award.

This is no ordinary prize. It is a six-year commitment to honoring those who lead not just with titles, but with service and environmental stewardship.

  • The Bounty: Each year, one student and one teacher will receive a purse of GH₵ 5,000.
  • The Criteria: Exceptional leadership, public-spiritedness, and the courage to champion positive change.

It is a clever move, darlings. By rewarding those who protect the environment and serve their community, he is ensuring that the next generation of leaders understands that power is only as valuable as the responsibility it carries.

A Queen’s Observation

As the college inches toward its centenary, the message remains clear a school’s legacy is not measured by the passage of years, but by the integrity of the souls it prepares for the world. To the teachers and staff, the “Silent Observer” offers a nod of respect; your patience is the loom upon which these future leaders are woven.

May the “Augusco tradition” continue to flourish, and may the spirit of perseverance continue to conquer all. After all, success is the only vindication a Queen truly recognizes.

Yours Truly,

Your Silent Observer
